Our language has reached the Senate
On 18 June 2025 Senator Pietro Patton tabled bill no. 1539 in the Italian Senate, seeking recognition of the Ladin-Rhaetian language group of Val di Non. It is the first time the question has reached Parliament.
The bill asks for recognition of the group, teaching of the language in the schools of the valley, respect for local place names, and access to the protections already granted to recognised minorities.

Recognition is decided in Parliament. A language, however, lives in those who speak it, and gathering its words before they are lost is the work every member makes possible.
